Christine Carr Trade Commissioner, Consulate General of Canada, Boston
Christine
Carr joined the Consulate General of Canada, Boston as the Technology and
Business Development Officer in 2007, and is now the Trade Commissioner for the
ICT & Clean Tech group. She has 25 years of business development, marketing,
public relations and investment experience in the private sector. She has an
excellent range of business networks and is an experienced cross-cultural
communicator. As the Trade Commissioner for the Consulate, Christine is
responsible for creating linkages between the Canadian and US technology
communities, and identifying opportunities for Canadian businesses to establish
and grow their businesses in the US. Through her work, Christine is closely
linked with Canada's Technology Triangle in Waterloo, its key Centers of
Technology Research, and a diverse membership of technology, IT and advanced
manufacturing businesses throughout the country. Through the DFAIT network
(Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade), Christine is linked to
hundreds of ICT and Technology Officers around the world.
Christine has worked in the field of international business development since
1993, and owned and operated her own consulting firm, where she conducted
business development activities for companies in advanced manufacturing,
telecommunications, information technologies, and other industries. During this
period, she spent 7 years working in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan and
Australia where she represented US companies seeking partnerships,
distributorships, and operations or sales expansion and establishing foreign
companies' operations in the USA. She has managed international business
development activities spanning a wide range of industries, including a
significant sports initiative that launched a U.S. American Football League in
Taiwan.
In 1998, Christine assisted her family's NH-based manufacturing business with
its own growth and expansion. For the next several years, she supported her
family's efforts to successfully transition the business to the next generation
of advanced manufacturing technology.
Christine has been active in business and industry organizations in the USA and
globally, and more recently has served on the boards of key New England-based
industry associations such as Boston's Instrumentation, Systems and Automation
Society (ISA), and Association of Operations Management Professionals (APICs)
where she has served on the Board for over 7 years including a term as President
of both organizations. Christine's most current obsession is jazz improvisation
which she has been studying for 10 years.
