Today's Purchasing Manager as Risk Mitigator: Gaining Insight Into Supplier Stability

by Jim Lawton, Vice President of Marketing, Open Ratings

The supply base is becoming more strategic, and the focus companies' efforts to improve operational excellence, enable "lean" systems, comply with diversity programs, and, of course, gain better control over costs - and risks.

Supplier instability has the potential to cause catastrophic disruption to the business, impacting everything from quarterly earnings and customer loyalty to a company's overall brand in the market.

This is driving early-stage shift in the role of the purchasing professional from cost manager to risk mitigator. To meet these new expectations, unprecedented levels of supplier intelligence and awareness of the potential sources of risk is required.

This presentation will highlight how proactive supply risk management works in practice. Case study examples from supply chain leaders will demonstrate how enriched data can identify supplier performance risk issues such as financial duress, impending quality and delivery problems, and degradation in performance compared to peer groups - months before it can affect the bottom-line.
