Vendor Managed Inventory/VMI (From Domestic & International Suppliers)

by Daniel A. Marino, CPIM

This Presentation will address techniques and processes that allow a company the means of reducing inventory, costs, purchase orders and associated expenses.

As business technology expands, there will be a greater emphasis in replacing "expensive" inventory, with "inexpensive" information. The sharing of schedules, and implementation of such techniques as VMI, will certainly help optimize Supply Chain Performance. With VMI, suppliers manage and often own their customer's inventory. There is also a need to view the "world" when implementing VMI. Global sourcing has become a critical success factor for many companies and their is a need view VMI from both a domestic and global viewpoint.

The use of VMI has gained acceptance in many industries. What was once thought of as an experiment has now become an accepted solution for dramatic improvements in Supply Chain Management.

This presentation will give an overview of how to establish and run a Vendor Managed Inventory program. This presentation will discuss a process that will:

  • Reduce inventory
  • Reduce lead times
  • Reduce warehousing and material handling
  • Reduce obsolescence

This presentation will also include actual case examples describing results of recent VMI implementations.
